Ready to Rennovate

A few years back I finally claimed our "spare" room, which was more of a gathering place for all things crafty, as my studio.  I thought it was the biggest space I had ever seen, since prior to that I worked in the corner of the family room, with things stacked all around.  Me I had to go to the basement to solder, the kitchen to patina, ect ect.......

Well, fastforward a few years, and I have outgrown it again.  However, there is no new space to comendeer.  So, I had to do a massive clean out to create a more workable space.
See?

Not much space to move around.  And after shows (when this picture was taken) is always the worst.  Things just pile and pile in the creating frenzy that occurs up until the last minute.  Then the piles get torn through to find the things I need to take with me, and this is what is left in its wake.

I also had no where to store my totes and things that I take to shows.  They pretty much sat in the middle of the studio, and blocked an entire entrance way.

So, I had to get rid of the sewing portion of my studio and move that to the corner of the family room, say good-bye to lots of hoarded fabric, and clean out everything I no longer need in there.

Here it is today.

My biggest inspiration for the clean up (no, it wasn't just because I couldn't move, I normally work like that) was because I plan to rip out the carpet.....YAY!  I told the hubs when I took over the room I wanted to take out the carpet, and he said no.  Well, now that its ruined, and hard to clean, he agreed.  So we need to empty the room (gasp!) and rip it out.  So the clean up helped to minimize that project by a little bit.

He is also going to build me a taller wood work bench along the far wall in the picture, where I have two folding tables.  This is will be my metal bench, so I stand and hammer, drill, polish and saw all on one bench.  I will also have much more under the bench storage room, and with no carpet, I can use storage with WHEELS!!!!!!!

And- that is not all.  Although I love this old cabinet, its going to have to go, and will be replaced by a folding table for my computer and paperwork.  Not sure if I can hook up a printer and even do my shipping from in here, but will see.  The hubs would be happy to have me out of his office for good !

These shelves will be replaced with bigger shelves and go next to the desk.  They will hold the contents of the cabinet and then some.  Right now I have a bunch of empty totes waiting to be temporarily filled for the move out for rennovations.  This is also the exit that normally has all my show stuff piled in it.

These shelves can stay full during the carpet tear out (thank goodness).  I did get tray storage for all those trays though.  It is wheeled cabinets that go under the desk, so I can have all those beads and such at my fingertips, and wheel them away when I don't need them.  So that shelf will be opened up a bit.

 Below the shelf of trays is where I can now fit my shows stuff.  I can actually walk up to these shelves, there used to be a pile of things in the way.  The bottom shelf to the right is all my sea glass.  That needs to be re-vamped somehow.  But that is a project for another day, week or year!

Yesterday I finally got in the "now cleaned" studio to make some things.  I had some Mothers Day Pins to make for some very special Grammy's.

I cannot wait until I have my metal bench so I can do more metal, and not have such a mess at my bead table!  Plus, I am on the taller side, to have it custom built is pretty exciting to me.

I also made this piece.  I was inspired by an article by Joy Kruse in the new Belle Armoire Jewlery magazine.

I really miss working in silver...it was my first love.  The first things I made were in silver- sea glass, and I soldered on little shell barnacles that I made in PMC.

Joy's article made me want to re-visit adding textured items to my bezels in a fun and whimsical way.  Her work really speaks to me.

Even though I really loved my piece I created with the amazing dark grey druzy (how I love druzy's), there was something about that I didn't like, and I couldn't put my finger on it.

Once I uploaded it to facebook, and saw it in the pictures, I figured it out.  It was too tidy.  Too symetrical.  My eye was telling me this piece was not finished.  So I took it back into the studio.

Now its done.  Now I love it.

Can't wait to make more, hopefully it will be happening on my new workbench next week!

I will post progress if by chance we get to do my studio on Monday, like I hope to!

Have a great holiday weekend!

Turned to Stone

I listed some things in my etsy shop- a few fossil pieces- today. www.stacilouise.etsy.com

So I thought I would make an etsy treasury to show off my love of fossils.  The first ring in the treasury is one of mine.

Now I am off to work on sorting out my studio some more.  I have a bunch of work to do for some patient people, and currently can't get in there!

I also plan to take a day to hit the beach with the family tomorrow.  It's in driving distance, so, we can just pack a lunch, leave early and make a nice day of it.  I have been so very busy with shows and show prep, that we all need a really fun mini vacay (and I always work Mothers Day weekend, so I get to pick where we go for the day).  I will post pics monday!

Have a great weekend!

Update on Everything

I just took some time to update everything I should be updating daily!  I added some new magazines that I am on the side bar.....including this brand new beading magazine called Bead it Today!  It features quick and affordable projects, and has a really great price point!  This was the launch issue, and it is so nicely laid out, beautiful clear pictures, and lots of fun projects.  So if you have never heard of it before, that is why.  Head on over and get your subscription today!!!!

I also updated my shop links for the Love My Art Jewelry group (on the sidebar) since we have had some members leave, and some new ones arrive.

I have really been slacking on updating this, but here is a link to the current location of the Art Bead Love Tour.

You can find it at Pretty Shiny Things blog.  You can win a chance to swap art beads on this chain!!!!!!!!!!!!  You can check where it is on our Love My Art Jewelry blog, on the side bar at any given time.

I have two back to back jewelry shows the first two weekends in May...between sick kids, spring stuff calling, and prepping for my shows, I've been very very busy!  I have been making components, and finally am starting to make some jewlery pieces.  Here is a peek at the new direction some of them will go this year!  I am making chain, and charmy dangly tribaly things!  I even used brass.

And I found out that today I was featured on Polymer Clay Daily's site- it featured my blog post from last week on making molds (LMAJ) and had a picture of this piece.  What an honor- I am over the moon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, I guess that catches you up on things.  I will be selling my wares next weekend in Peddlers Village, Lahaska PA at the Annual Strawberry Festival.  So if you are local, come on out and say hi!!!!!!!  The Artisans are on the Street Road Green, between Earls Prime restaurant and Touch of Britan.  We are not in the actual village with the festivities, so make sure to come over and visit!!

Balled Head Pins Boot Camp

Over at Love my Art Jewelry we started a new challenge, no more Strut your Stuff, we are going hardcore with Boot Camp!  You can read all about it here.  Basically, we wanna teach you some new fundamental techniques, and then let you try it out and run with it, and then, have a blog hop at the end of it all.  This month we spent a lot of time working out the bugs, but its blog hop time.

If you want to hop along you can enter by adding your blog by inlinkz here.  Remember to link your blog to ours (LMAJ) so your friends can hop along too!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here is what I made with the balled headpins technique.
I have used LONG balled head pins balled on both sides to create dangles, such as in my jellyfish earrings.
I have used them to create texture on pieces too.
 But for this challenge I wanted to do something new, so thought about using them as a connection.  Balling a headpin, dropping it through and balling the other side to connect two things together.
I also happend to be making bronze clay beads, and I often like to layer them with sheet metal.  So here is what I came up with.  It is a trilobite fossil in bronze, with balled head pins to connect it to a nickle silver backing.
The bail on this piece is also a head pin, balled on one side, fed through a hole and balled again.
So I hope you had fun with boot camp, and learned to make some headpins and found some new ways to use them in your jewelry making.
Remember to go to to Love my Art Jewlery to hop along and see what everyone did!
The Jersey Shore- My Heart
The Jersey shore is still working toward recovery, with many many families still misplaced, and the holidays around the corner.  Hurricane Sandy devastated our precious shore.
The Copper Frog (the amazing gallery that is now carrying my jewelry) has many artists making work inspired by the jersey shore, and a portion of the sales will be donated to rebuildrecover.org- a grassroots organization that is making sure funds go just where they are needed.
I jumped at the chance to be able to make something special that will help to raise some money for the shore.  I figured I should do something in sea glass, since my love of sea glass started on Long Beach Island NJ. I found a bunch of wire wrapped sea glass pendants that were hidden away in my studio, in a double bail style that I adored.  So I started thinking about re-working them into something new. My style has evolved - and it is so far from where I started- and I started thinking about what I could do with them.
I also thought it was appropriate, to re-build these necklaces into something new, since the money would help to rebuild the shore we love.
I wanted to create a flow, and as always, I like my sea glass jewelry to look a lot like the mix of wonders I find on the shoreline as I beach comb.  These were made with drift wood in mind, often found with the sea weed and sea glass on the beach.  They are abstract, and each one will be different, yet have the same feel.
You can purchase them at the Copper Frog, as well as my etsy shop (they will be listed very soon).
If you can't buy a necklace or shop the Copper Frog, and you still want to help, you can donate directly to rebuildrecover.orghttp://www.rebuildrecover.org/.
