New Ancient Things

Just a quick post about a couple of new necklaces I made. I need to make some samples of jewlery with my new beads so I can wear and display them at the Berks Bead Bazaar.

So I couldn't wait another minute to make some jewelry with these trilobite pendants. I will only have a few at the show, and each one is totally unique.

First I made this one for a display piece.....it will be for sale. I LOVED how deep and orange the bronze piece got!!!

It features a trilobite, a spiral connector and a rolled bronze center drilled stick bead- all will be for sale at Berks. It also has stick pearls, an antique brass bell, a genuine ammonite fossil, a connector by Starry Road Studio in a great rusty colo, amber and turquoise.

So, I usually make myself something to wear at the show, and I loved how this first piece turned out so. So I made one for myself- but a bit chunkier, since that is how I roll.

I will probably never take it off. It has a large trilobite, rolled beads, turquoise donuts, labradorite chunk, ammonite fossil, brass bell, more tuquoise, rutilated quartz, a raku bead, agate, and recycled sari silk mixed with a great strand from Marsha Neal Studio.

See, it's totally my style! I love how ancient everything is on them, even though they are new, they feel like they have thousands of years built into them.

Now I am off to finish an article and sand and seal some more beads.

Some New Things Going On

I just waned to write a quick post about some new things going on.

First of all, the postage rates for the USA have increased for 2013. The biggest hit is with the international shipping. It has gone up around 100% or more. So, I updated all the shipping costs in my shops and ended up charging a flat rate in the higher bracket for bigger packages, just to cover my bases.....HOWEVER, if you package doesn't cost that much to ship, I will refund the difference if its over $1.50.

Rates for an average package under 3oz are anywhere from $8.60 to $12.00- even to Canada.

I am just as unhappy about the shipping hike as you are!

Second, I have decided to offer layaway in my jewelry shop. I am willing to do a layaway for jewelry, broken into three payments over a period of 60 days. I am flexible though, so contact me if you are interested and we can work out a plan that works for both of us.

New style bronze trilobite beads. I will add a similar necklace to the shop soon. This year my beads are very fossil / stone / bone oriented.

Third, I am not able to do custom work at this time. Not for beads, or for jewelry. I have always made a variety of jewelry and beads, and sometimes I make styles again, and sometimes I don't. If I do, I usually produce them together, at the same time, and then that is that. So, I will not re-make specific pieces. I am usually unable to remake pieces anyway due to the unique nature of my materials. So, if you see something you like, please purchase it. I am hoping that layaway will help you to be able to have pieces you want, so you don't miss out. I really hate to cut out custom work, but there is just no time for me to be able to do it. Thanks for understanding.

I will have these eye focal beads for sale at the Berks Bead Bazaar in Reading. Both as bracelet and necklace focals.

Prong Set Challenge Reveal- Artisan Whimsy

Artisan Whimsy had a prong set challenge, given by the Metal Team. I was asked to write the tutorial for it, and anyone who wanted to try it, could sign up for a blog hop, to show off what they made. Today, is the big day!

I decided to try some new things, since I am always learning more and more. I wanted to make a piece that used at least two prong settings, attached in a necklace. On the main piece, I decided to layer two contrasting metals, using the prongs to hold them together, as well as sandwiching a swirl in between them, so that I could it to attach my second piece.

The second piece, I simply prong set my cab, but I also soldered a bezel cup to the bottom so I could add a little cab that I thought this piece really needed.

Here she is.........................

It consists of copper sheet, with nickle silver sheet, a sterling silver swirl, lavender mica, an ammonite fossil and an iolite cab. The beaded portion is pearls and amethyst with a couple silver beads along the way.
