Bead Dreams Peoples Choice Awards

It is that time of year again.  I am honored to have TWO pieces accepted into the Polymer Clay category of Bead Dreams.  We find out next friday (the 10th) who takes ribbons in each category.

Here are the pieces I have in the competition

 Sunset Gold Rush

and

Zen Cairn

However, there is another way to win, and that is the Peoples Choice award.  You get to vote for your favorite!

So you can win first second or third place in your category, and then ONE person also wins the Peoples Choice award.

If you would like to vote for Sunset Gold Rush

And if you would like to vote for Zen Cairn

Thanks to everyone who is always so supportive of me and my art!  You guys rock.  I am really honored to be part of this competition for a third year in a row!

Also, if you will be at Bead and Button in person, please snap a picture for me of the pieces in the case!  I would be forever grateful!

And if you would like to buy some of my beads while you are there, the lovely Nikki Thornburg of Thornburg Bead Studio and Marsha Neal will have some of my beads at their booth #608!!!!

Hooters Challenge

Owls, people, talking about owls.  I entered a cool design challenge on the new Artisan Whimsy site.  We were challenged to either create a component or piece of jewelry- that included an owl.  I chose to use a Lisa Peters Art focal for mine.

The focal just spoke to me.  I think, he kinda reminded me of Bubo- the Mechanical Owl from Clash of the Titans.

Bubo in Clash of the Titans (1981 film)

Lisa Peters Cab that I used

Bubo, in Greek Mythology, was a mechanical owl created to replicated Athena's magical owl- also named Bubo.

So, if Bubo was a good enough name for Athena's Magical Owl, then it's good enough for the name of my piece.  I tried to capture the metal and magic in this piece, using nickle silver, chain, pearls, gemstones, and a textured disc bead by Marsha Neal Studio, and a glass headpin drop by Genea Beads.

Here is Bubo!  My Magical Owl Necklace.

If you like it, you can vote for me here.  Please vote (I never do these things, and really want to nail this!!!).  You do have to join the site, but let me tell you, its free, and there is so much information, that no matter what your medium, you will find something new and interesting on here.

Thanks!

Rejection

Remember these?

                                                             Glass Category

Gemstone category
I entered them in the Bead Star competition.

I didn't get in.  I would be lying if I said I was not dissapointed.  I really wanted a shot at it.  So now, I go to that insecure place, and pic them apart.  Are they ugly?  Not original enough?  Too original?  Are my pictures not good enough?  *sigh*  In the glass category there are 10 charm bracelets out of the 20 picked.  Is this rigged so that the kind of project they are looking for in the book wins?  I don't know.  But I can't let it get me down.

I guess in the end, if you never get rejected, it means that you never put yourself out there.

So there.  I will let that thought sink in tonight and wake up ready to go for it all over again tomorrow!

Congrats to the girlies who made it in!  There are lots of great necklaces.....AND if you want to help me out, you can vote for Erin Strothers wonderful necklace here.  (she used my heart pendant in it.)

Everyone has talent. What is rare is the courage to follow that talent to the.... place where it leads.
