Thanks to everyone who is stopping by to hop along with us. I am so honored to be hosting my first blog hop with all of you fine ladies. I cannot wait to meet you all, and read about what inspired you.
What I love about Alice is not just her distaste for arithmetic, but her open and innocent way to view everything. I love how she can escape into her fantasy world, and her grand adventures. Alice reminds me to have fun, take a break, DREAM, be innocent, be confident, and think like a child now and again.
My first piece is called, Absolutely Alice.
It started with a focal from Marie-Noel Voyer-Cramp of Skye Jewels and More Skye Jewels. I just loved this tile with Queen Alice. It really spoke to me. It embodies everything I love about Alice. It reminds me that we need to be the Queen every now and again.
So, the necklace was designed around the things that make me think of Alice, like her beautiful blue dress (represented in the blue recycled sari-silk). I also wanted to make sure the necklace still felt like me (since I was venturing into new territory using an ephemera tile and filigree findings). So I found the perfect shade of sea glass for the focal, and used a brass sun to "bezel" it, and then attached it to the vintage looking backing by bending two of the remaining suns rays through it. I do not usually use these vintage like findings, but they go so well with Marie's tiles, I thought I had to try it out, plus, they are very royal, and queen like. I added shells of course, and found the perfect black and white striped ones. Black and white stripes always remind me of Alice's stockings. To complete the piece I made a small chunk of chain with brass spirals. "down the rabbit hole" makes me think of her swirling around and around. I am very happy with how my piece came together. I will think of Alice each time I see it!
And who doesn't love the tea party. Here is my "Twinkle, Twinkle little Bat" necklace.
It features a focal from Marsha Neal Studio. I used some more of my swirl chain and a swirl clasp I made as well. I added a hand stamped charm that says twinkle with a sparkly crystal drop off of it. It's simple, but I love it.
There are also a couple giveaways going on, so make sure to hop to every blog. Genea has an amazing stash of beads she made JUST for this challenge to giveaway, along with some other goodies!
I am giving away this little stash.
It consists of some bright yellow sari silk, a copper etched cuff (hand drawn by me) with some branches and the Cheshire cat peeking through all mysteriously, like he does. It also has some cool glass beads I got from the Best Little Bead box, but I am not sure who made them. They seemed very Alice to me. And last but not least, you get some of these whimsical black and white shells. All you have to do is hop to everyone's blog, and leave a comment here that you did. Honor system people. It would be nice if you leave a comment for each person too. It's not a long list, and its how we can all get to know one another. You can get a second chance to win by sharing the hop with a link to this post and leaving another comment telling how you shared. They must be separate comments to be entered twice. Make sure I have a way to contact you or you will not qualify.
Good Luck and have fun hopping to see what the artists below made!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the fun challenge, Staci! Loved participating in this one. And darn it, try as I might, several times, I just wasn't successful in linking everyone's blog. Worked for a bit, but wouldn't stay put. Good thing I'm listed at the end, so people should be done hopping by the time they reach me. I'll keep practicing for the next one. There is a referral link back to you is people hop out of order.

ReplyDeleteGreat necklace! My Alice in Wonderland item is now posted! I had fun! Thanks for allowing me to be a part of!
ReplyDeleteAnd enter me in the giveaway! I will share on Facebook!
That necklace is fantastic!! I love that copper etched piece as well, the cheshire cat is one of my favourite characters. I loved this challenge, LOVED it! I made some beads very outside my comfort zone and had a blast doing it, thank you so much for this!
ReplyDeleteSpent the morning with a cup of coffee hopping around and looking at the beauties posted so far. OMG! I am totally inspired buy all the work everyone has done!
ReplyDeleteSo freaking amazing!!! those B&W spiral beads are so perfect, Cheshire Cat! The brass connectors are just gorgeous, and of course the focal pulls the theme together without being too literal. And the rustic stones give it your unique earthy flavor. The second piece is also amazing! I love how you're used those hammered spirals with the focal. I love your work!
ReplyDeleteStaci I love that first piece with the striped beads and your fabulous metal swirls! And of course that focal is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI like that the second piece was inspired by the nonsensical ditties in the story.
I've visited all the blogs and left comments (except for Donna a couple who did not have their post up yet).
I share this on my FB page. Thanks for the chance to win this fabulous prize!
ReplyDeleteThose are gorgeous. I am especially taken with the last one. I shared on my blog and will be setting time aside today to pour through the entries. I've been looking forward to the reveal even though I wasn't able to participate.
ReplyDeleteYou created a piece that is so your style, and also Alice! Lovely! The sea glass is great! And the bat... How I wonder where Im at... Love it.
ReplyDeleteI have visited! There were great, very diverse offerings! A few weren't up so I will try back later. And shared the love on FB of course! Oh let me Tweet this...
Hey Staci! First I want to thank you for your wonderful idea of doing this hop together! It wouldn't have been the success that it is without you!
ReplyDeleteSecond, I LOVE your Alice necklace! I love that you told us how each part has a meaning to you and what that meaning is. I love the wonderful tile by Skye Jewels and how you incorporated it, into your design. The filigree adds the perfect amount of royalty to the piece. I adore the striped shells that make you think of Alices stockings. I love that you made this necklace in your style! It's SO YOU! The amazing swirl connectors are incredible! Just LOVE everything!
I love the bat necklace as well! Love Marsha's work! I scrolled down and was like "Bat?" "OH, Bat, yes, twinkle, twinkle..." LOL. I love that you too this simple phrase and created this super silly piece. It is perfectly balanced and awesome!
Great work girl!
xo Genea
Staci! Those shells are too much! They seriously MAKE the necklace. All the other elements are wonderful on their own - funny that we used the same Queen Alice - your swirls, the filigree, the sari - but the shells are whats so unexpected and make you go WOW! Not to ignore the bat, the bat is precious as well - but I am totally blown away by the Alice necklace. This has been so much fun! And yes, I have visited all the blogs, even though one of them doesn't seem to have posted yet.
ReplyDeleteAnd I just facebook business paged about your giveaway: http://www.facebook.com/expostfactojewelry
ReplyDeleteI love your pieces they are gorgeous! I will share your giveaway on Facebook also. My email is mlgovaar@pacbell.net

ReplyDeleteOff to hop!
Both of your pieces are really awesome. I'm especially smitten with that first one. I do love the blue and the sea glass. Dreamy!
ReplyDeleteI did hop to all the participating blogs and left comments for the ones that had an Alice post up (there were still a few that didn't have a post yet. I'll try to check back later to check in when they do.) Thanks for the opportunity! :)
Love your references to characters and events in this classic. Your pieces are a wonderful tribute to Alice.

Hopped! Great job, wonderful idea, and fun and fabulous pieces. Thanks for everything. nancy.saccoccio@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI think my comment went into oblivion. I hopped the blogs. Really like your bat necklace and the blue Sari silk idea.
ReplyDeleteI posted the blog hop to my facebook page.
ReplyDeleteI shared your post on my fb page, but I have to hit the hay (Japan standard time here). I'll finish hopping tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI actually promoted your blog hop on my blog, with all of the links. I wasn't able to participate, but I think it was a GREAT hop! I wanted to promote it as best I could. =)
ReplyDeleteSo that was so much fun. I knew the design challenge brought out a lot of ideas for me, but there are so many amazing designs you coaxed into existence with this challenge. Thanks! I visited them all and tried to comment. Sometimes I got distracted visiting shops, but I hope I got them all.
ReplyDeleteMy two favorite things are the sea glass in the vintage setting and those amazing swirled links! I totally loved the comparison to falling down the rabbit hole. I read the book in preparation for the hop, but knew I would not be able to make beads in time. Your piece totally made me "feel" Alice in Wonderland"!
ReplyDeleteOkay this is my second entry as I have attended each posting of the blog hop and have commented on each and every one. It was WONDERFULLY ENJOYABLE! I think that the blog hops are as good, and in most cases, better than a magazine. Not only that, it was wonderful to see and "meet" some new artists. I totally loved this hop! Thank you for organizing it. Diane V. {cambriaz"at"roadrunner"dot"com}
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I LOVE the first piece you made- beautiful job combining the metal components, sea glass, shells, filagree, ribbon, and tile! I have also hopped to each page, and enjoyed everyone's great pieces, love to see how creative people can be! Thanks for the hop Staci!
ReplyDeleteTweeted @pugbeader :)

ReplyDeleteWell, I'm a little late to this party, but I'm making all the rounds. I'm signed up for bead soup. My first blog hop challenge. I'm just begging to discover just how many of these are out there. I'm so excited to get more involved. Too bad I missed this one. I'm a huge Alice fan. Love the etched Cheshire cat by the way. Beautiful mix.
